Last week, the Wunan Foundation hosted our annual Wunan Day at the Kimberley Grande Hotel, bringing together nearly 100 team members from across our programs and social enterprises, to reflect and celebrate our achievements.

The day began with presentations from the Wunan executive team. Executive Chairperson Ian Trust spoke about living out the Wunan Way, and our team’s profound impact on the East Kimberley region, emphasising the positive social outcomes for Aboriginal people who work with or benefit from our various programs and services.

Chief Executive Officer Prue Jenkins also delivered opening remarks, highlighting the significant successes seen over the past 12 months and introducing the new strategic plan. Several board members, including Jamie Elliott, Jean O'Reeri, Lexie Trancollino, Michael Ashforth, Troy Zafer, and Jeff Gooding, also shared their reflections from the past year, providing firsthand insights into Wunan's ongoing impact.

Throughout the day, we heard from various program leads, who shared success stories, key metrics, and achievements from their respective teams. Special guest speaker Dan Aubin kept the energy high with his engaging stories, life lessons, and entertaining acrobatics and circus tricks.

Prior to the day’s events, each team were tasked with designing a poster showcasing their key activities for the year. The posters were displayed on a big board, and the top three submissions, selected by the executive team, received special awards for their creativity and accomplishments.

Wunan Media also had the chance to show off some of their incredible footage from the Bedford Downs Stock Route Walk providing our team an inside look at their video series set to release shortly to promote the initiative and Wunan’s work with local at-risk youth.

Once the video was finished, we got a wonderful full circle moment, when the Wunan Maintenance team got up to introduce one of the 16-year-old boys from the video, who after completing the walk, had reached out to the team to see if he could join them and begin working to provide a better life for him and his family.

After the official program concluded, everyone gathered at the Kununurra Community Hostel for a delightful dinner under the stars, catered by the Lily Lagoon Resort hospitality team and their new head chef, Peter.

The evening was capped off with a captivating traditional Aboriginal dance performance by the Waringarri Wangga dancers, providing a perfect close to a memorable day.

Thank you to everyone who made today possible, and congratulations to all of our teams and individuals for their remarkable contributions to the Wunan Way this year. We appreciate all the work you all do, and are grateful for times like these where we can all come together and celebrate what makes Wunan so special.
