Laser Tag Brings Holiday Fun Across the East Kimberley

Last week the Wunan Foundation’s Talent Pool Academy, led by Program Manager Matt Arnold, delivered a week of action-packed fun during the school holidays, taking laser tag sessions to communities across the East Kimberley. With over 180 kids participating, these events created excitement and strengthened connections between youth, police, and community members.

From Halls Creek to Balgo, Warmun, and Wyndham, each stop saw fantastic engagement, with 70 kids in Halls Creek on Monday, 35 in Balgo and another 30 in Halls Creek on Tuesday, 40 in Warmun on Wednesday, and 10 in Wyndham on Thursday. The sessions gave participants the opportunity to work as a team and enjoy some friendly competition, with lots of smiles and laughter all around.

These sessions were made possible through collaborations with incredible partners, including:

  • Western Australia Police (WAPOL) in Balgo, Halls Creek, Warmun, and Wyndham

  • Halls Creek Shire

  • Gija Youth in Warmun

  • Garnduwa in Halls Creek

  • Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley

  • Balgo Community Office

...and many more who supported this initiative. Their contributions ensured these activities reached and inspired kids across the region.

The Talent Pool Academy, a partnership between the Wunan Foundation and Royal Life Saving WA, addresses the employment challenges faced by Aboriginal youth in regional WA. It creates pathways into careers like lifeguarding, recreation roles, and pool operations through culturally appropriate mentoring, accredited training, and paid work experience.

Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this incredible initiative—and a big congratulations to Matt and the Talent Pool Academy team for making the school holidays unforgettable!
