Aspiring to create healthy communities

Good health and wellbeing provide the foundation for a healthy life. This is why it has been identified as one of Wunan’s strategic priorities. Healthy, physically capable individuals, free from addiction are able to contribute to the community to reach its true potential. Lower life expectancy among Indigenous populations, in comparison to non-Indigenous Australians is a major disadvantage that needs to be addressed. Chronic conditions, birth defects and dependency on substances are significant barriers for individuals to reach their true potential. Wunan’s efforts to improve the East Kimberley region’s healthcare options and extended services aims to support our communities to overcome their health barriers and to pave the way for healthier generations to come.

Wunan Health & Well-Being Centre

Wunan’s primary health initiative, Wunan Health & Well-Being Centre, is the only GP practice within the East Kimberley region. The practice provides a range of primary healthcare services for the community as a whole. The clinic previously operated from the Kununurra District Hospital and has relocated to bigger, purpose-built premises to enhance its service delivery. Constructed with the generous support of Lotterywest, The Wunan Health & Well-Being Centre is a unique facility that has filled a significant gap in the East Kimberley Region’s healthcare options.

Wunan Health & Well-Being Centre currently delivers the Outreach Nurse Program which provides care for complex and palliative care patients to reduce the need for hospital admissions. Care can be provided in the patients’ homes.

Wunan Health & Well-Being Centre provides a range of medicals for the community for employment and recreational purposes, including, employment medicals, drug and alcohol testing, aviation medicals, Visa medicals, driving medicals etc.
