Manager – Early Childhood Education and Family Support

Wunan’s purpose is to ensure that Aboriginal people in the East Kimberley enjoy the capabilities and opportunities necessary to make positive choices leading to independent and fulfilling lives. Essentially, to have dreams and a real chance of achieving them.

The overall purpose of this Manager Early Childhood and Family Support position is to strategically lead, manage and professionally develop Wunan’s capacity to achieve and sustain our purpose, within the closely related areas of early childhood education and family support. Previous knowledge, skills and experience working in these areas will be highly regarded. The intent is help build stronger families and promote the role of parents as first educators of their children and the primary source of nurturance and support.

Essential Selection Criteria:

·         Experience managing and leading a team of people to achieve specific results and strong ability to work independently and within a team environment.

·         Demonstrated skills in developing systems and processes to manage and deliver  outcomes with high level communication and relationship skills

·         Ability to work effectively to achieve common goals  across a range of partners and stakeholders, including government, NGO, business and community

·         Demonstrated financial management and budgeting skills and Experience in applying quality improvement principles

·         Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous culture and the issues/challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and experience working effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.


·         Indigenous Australian.

·         Familiarity with Government programs, particularly relating to Aboriginal employment and enterprise

·         Demonstrated understanding of the early childhood development and family support services, both locally and at a state and national level.

·         Program management experience.

·         Willingness to participate in further education or training.

·         Experience in a Case Management environment.

·         Recruitment experience.

·         Group facilitation and/or training experience.

·         Experience working within a compliance framework.

Other Qualifications:

·         Formal qualifications in early childhood development and/or teaching and/or family support will be highly regarded but are not essential

·         Positive Parenting Program (‘Triple P’) Australia Training certification or similar qualification. Appropriate licences and working with Children Check / National Police Clearance.
