Wunan Marches for NAIDOC

Every July, Indigenous and Non-Indigenous residents of Kununurra come together to march through the streets celebrating NAIDOC Week.  The march is followed by celebrations in White Gum Park and a week of events.

This year Wunan’s Werlemen Girls made their own banner and proudly walked at the front of the march leading the way for other Indigenous organisations and supporters.

NAIDOC originally stood for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life.
