An Update from Lakeside Resort

8 June 2020

For decades, Lakeside Resort has been a beloved local establishment and a popular tourist destination in Kununurra. The resort became a part of Wunan Foundation as its 5th Social Enterprise to provide hospitality services and to increase employment and training opportunities in the sector within Kununurra. All profits from Lakeside Resort will be used to fund Wunan’s programs to support its mission to create more opportunities and to provide essential support services for Aboriginal people in the East Kimberley.

The current situation with the global pandemic has been especially challenging to the hospitality industry. The resort, together with other establishments in the region, had large numbers of bookings cancelled or postponed due to the travel restrictions. The resort’s restaurant, Sails Bar & Bistro has changed its operations to only offer takeaway and delivered dinner in adherence with current regulations.

Prior to the restrictions being put in place, Lakeside Resort joined with the recently launched local directory website ‘Kununurra Weddings’, as a wedding venue and catering services provider.

As the COVID19 restrictions are being lifted, the resort has put plans in place to welcome Western Australian travellers who wish to enjoy the cooler months in Kununurra. The resort has implemented the hygiene and cleaning guidelines as provided by the Australian Government Department of Health and offers special rates for those who are unable to travel due to border restrictions.
