House Parent – Subiaco – Perth 

The Kimberley Education Excellence Program (KEEP) aims to transform lives and communities through the power of education. The program gives young Indigenous people predominately from the East Kimberley and the wider Kimberley access to high quality private education in Melbourne, Perth and Sydney; in a supported environment and with an extensive range of extracurricular opportunities.

Houseparents are sought for our Family Boarding Home located in Perth – Subiaco. We are looking for dedicated house parents keen to work alongside Indigenous families to care for these students.

Students attend local schools, close by the Family Boarding Home.

Eligibility to Apply: Pursuant of Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984, the occupant of this position must be of Aboriginal descent.

Pre-requisites: Current Working With Children Check (or state equivalent), Current National Police Clearance, C Class Drivers Licence & WA light truck licence (to drive a 14 seater van)

Essential Selection Criteria:

  1. Experience in assisting with the management of the day-to-day operations of a hostel/group home or similar entity including the ability to plan, organise work and manage priorities
  2. Ability to use spreadsheets and word processing computer programmes to gather and record information, and the ability to use Microsoft Outlook for emails, scheduling and tasks
  3. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and family structures
  4. Skills in engaging and working respectfully with Aboriginal families and young people mainly experience with Kimberley youth (of ages 12 to 14 years females)
  5. The ability to handle conflict and crisis situations in a range of settings.

Desirable:

  1. Ability to commence at beginning of Term 2 (30 April 2018)
  2. First Aid certificate
  3. Qualifications / and or experience with youth mental health and behavioral challenges (eg FASD).
