DIRECTOR – Research and Evaluation.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a well-established research and evaluation consultancy with a strong portfolio of clients. Established in 2004, Social Compass is a social evaluation and consultancy service and a business unit of Aboriginal organisation Wunan Foundation Inc. The Director of Research and Evaluation will be responsible for the growth of the organisation as well as the delivery of all research and evaluation projects on time and on budget across a wide range of clients and projects. Working with a small team, the Director will manage all phases of the research / evaluation process, including design (defining key implementation/outcome measures developing data collection methods), implementation (data collection and analysis), and reporting. The Director will also be responsible for managing a growing team and for implementing a growth strategy for the organisation. The position will ideally be located in Melbourne, Sydney or Canberra. The ability to travel interstate to regional and remote communities is required for the position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Building and maintaining excellent client relationships during and beyond the life of the projects
  • Develop research methodologies that are fit for purpose and suitable to the needs of our clients
  • Lead and manage a portfolio of projects at any one time and guide, motivate and lead the research team to deliver high standards of research and results
  • Perform data collection, data analysis, interpretation and application, and dissemination of findings in oral and written forms
  • Comply with any ethical requirements and/or industry standards to ensure all research meets the highest research standards.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPEREINCE

  • The position requires a tertiary qualification with a Master’s degree or PhD in social research / evaluation or similar is preferred; completion of higher degree research methodology units is required
  • At least 5 years’ experience in applied program evaluation and/or social sciences research as well as experience working in a consulting environment
  • Experience working with disadvantaged groups and specifically Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is necessary

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • High level knowledge and application of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies
  • Established knowledge of research-based program evaluation designs and data collection and analysis processes
  • Experience with development of work plans, logic models, project proposals, and other research and evaluation products and tools
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate design specifications, research methods and results to clients’ internal and external audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to develop publication-quality research
  • Working understanding of the different stakeholders in reviewing and utilizing program research and evaluation
  • Ability to effectively communicate across a diverse range of stakeholders and clients.
  • Able to communicate complex data in a way that is accessible, in lay terms, to a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and focus on quality
  • Skilled at providing expertise in a team environment as well as building upon core competencies of colleagues.

 

Eligible candidates should have a valid current driver’s licence and should be able to provide us with current National Police Clearance.
