Wunan_New_CEO_Christian_ZahraWunan Chairman, Ian Trust, has announced the appointment of Christian Zahra as new CEO for the organisation. Until recently a Director of KPMG’s Strategy Group, Christian has had extensive experience in senior roles in both the private and government sectors and has served previously as a Chief Executive Officer in an Aboriginal Health and Housing service in regional Victoria. Christian has also served in several leading public official roles including as Chairman of the Federal Government’s $1B Regional Development Australia Fund Advisory Panel and six years as a Federal MP representing a regional electorate.   Read More.

I have six children and five grandchildren. Wunan_Signing_EK_CharterTwelve months into the design stage of Empowered Communities in the East Kimberley, seven Aboriginal organisations in Kununurra recently made history by coming together to sign the East Kimberley Aboriginal Charter. This Charter formalises their commitment to work together to close the gap of social and economic disadvantage experienced by Aboriginal people in the East Kimberley. For the first time we have an Aboriginal coalition of support for change which will provide leadership in our communities, encouraging individual responsibility and empowering Aboriginal people to live positive, healthy lives.   Read More.

Wunan_Dural_Education_ProgramOver the past three years, since the establishment of the Dural Education Excellence Program in Sydney, there have been many changes and challenges. Presently, we are at full capacity with 12 Indigenous students from the East Kimberley who reside at Dural House and attend Pacific Hills Christian School.   Wunan and the Dural program have been very fortunate to recruit our current houseparents,  Jeff and Marilyn Smith, an Aboriginal couple originally from Queensland. The Smiths are familiar to many of our local families, having lived in the Kimberley for almost 20 years.   Read More.
