Wunan_Day_2014WUNAN DAY 2014 saw the Board of Directors and staff of Wunan get together at the Kununurra Country Club. It was a time to remind ourselves of the vision of the organisation, our purpose, objectives and strategies. All programs and businesses were reviewed, which reinforced the size and scope of the organisation. It also highlighted the skill and commitment of Wunan staff over a broad range of activities which directly impact the lives of Aboriginal people in the East Kimberley and beyond. Wunan Day was also a time for Board Members and staff to get to know each other better and ensure we are all on the same page and with a common understanding of our roles and of the challenges ahead. Wunan_Jessica_ScanlonMeet Jessica Scanlon – the smiling face that greets you when you walk through the door of Wunan’s main office in Kununurra. Jessie joined the Wunan team in February as a trainee administration assistant. Recently turned 18, Jessie is just 12 months out of school but shows maturity beyond her years as she provides outstanding customer service to our clients and partners as well as administrative support to her colleagues. While Jessie is full-time in her role, she spends three hours each week at Kimberley Training Institute carrying out the theoretical aspects of her Certificate II in Business Administration. Jessie comes to Wunan through Kimberley Group Training’s successful program that links businesses in the region with trainees and apprentices.   Read More.

Wunan_Dr_Chung_TanDr. Chung Tan, GP Registrar, Kununurra Medical Dr Chung Tan is a GP registrar who has recently joined Wunan’s medical practice, Kununurra Medical. He is working alongside Dr Abby Harwood as part of his journey towards attaining his Fellowship. Dr Tan graduated from the University of Western Australia in 2009 and has been working in various hospitals around Australia including Bentley Health Campus, Bunbury Regional Hospital, Kalgoorlie Regional Hospital, Albany Regional Hospital and Geraldton Regional Hospital under Royal Perth Hospital’s secondment program. Dr Tan has a special interest in rural medicine and its domains and is committed to a career as a procedural GP with anaesthetic skills. He is currently completing a Diploma in Child Health with the University of Sydney and the Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Dr. Tan will be with Kununurra Medical until the end of 2014.   Read More.

Wunan_HIPPY_Host_ProviderWunan is proud to have been named host provider of the Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters (HIPPY). HIPPY is an early childhood enrichment program that works with parents and carers of young children in their homes. Parents are supported by home tutors to help their preschool-age children develop their reading, writing and social skills, which helps them start school ready to learn.   Read More.

Wunan_Empowered_CommunitiesWunan Executive Director & Chairman Ian Trust is collaborating with Indigenous Leaders from seven other regions across Australia to reset the agenda and challenge the status quo of Indigenous social and economic disadvantage under a new policy direction called Empowered Communities. Together they are creating a unified voice to lead the design and implementation of a new mechanism to interface with the Australian Government. It is their vision that an equal partnership will be formed between Indigenous people and the Government, one that will empower Indigenous people to take responsibility for their future. It is envisaged that the leaders will lead the reform in consultation with their community to redefine social policy and ensure that future investment is regionally focused and reflects community priorities and aspirations.
